BE YOU

Learnt this from a brother and I hope it will help you.

He goes by the name Biyi Agboola and he is fond of ending all his introductions and speeches with a phrase I so much love, "I am a Blessing to my Generation and an asset to Nations".

I have been following him closely for months online even before we finally met and today, he is one of the many that has added sauce to my speaking career and impacted me a lot when it comes to personal development.

So many times I watch him speak and his gestures, postures and self carriage amazes me a lot that I can't stop gazing. About some days ago, he posted a picture of himself giving a lecture at an event and the manner at which he held the microphone got my attention.

Afterwards, as he is someone I love watching and he's a mentor I emulate a lot, I began a research through his previous engagements and discovered the microphone handling style was the same, so stylish and full of awesomeness. I tried learning how to handle the microphone in same manner but sweetheart, it was not in any way convenient for me.

I later informed him about my 'trial and error wanna be' style and he replied with just two words that blew my mind "BE YOU". Instantly, I revisited my training tools and guess what, I found myself an awesome style that is expedient.

This made me remember my popular quote which says 'Don't try to be someone else, because, the more you try, the more you loose yourself'

Lesson learnt:
So many times we follow our mentors so closely that we get lost in their personality, style and person. It is very necessary in the ladder of greatness to have someone you follow as a mentee. Mentors are not to be followed to become 'like them', but to followed in other to find 'Ourself' through them.

Watch that habit that is gradually eating up your original self, watch that style you're mimicking that is taking away your originality. Follow them closely, Learn from them, Mimic them and above all "BE YOU".
